BREAKING NEWS: ASUU calls off strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has called off its five months strike.
The Union arrived at the latest decision to suspends its strike after a marathon meeting held at the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, Niger State on Monday.

After a protracted debate, the Federal Government and ASUU reached a compromise during a negotiation brokered by the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar few days ago.

Naija Woman Bites Off A Married Man's Penis

It was a terrible sight on Sunday evening as a middle aged woman, identified as Kemi, bit off the manhood of her neighbour around the Inalende area of Ibadan, Oyo State. Kemi was said to have resorted to biting, according to an eyewitness, after she was thoroughly beating by the man, identified simply as Rasheed.
Speaking on what made her cut off a man's manhood with her teeth, Kemi said: “He reported me and my friend to my friend’s mother in-law after she arrived at our house and thereafter started to beat me and when nobody rescued me from him, I bit him but I do not know it was his pénis.”
It was gathered that issues on how to settle a misunderstanding between Rasheed’s wife and another woman degenerated into a violent fight. It was during the process of partisan interference that Kemi angrily tore the man's dress, held his manhood and bit it off Mr Rasheed's manhood live.

Aside from the manhood which was bitten off, she also inflicted a big sore on the man’s abdomen. Rasheed was later rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital in the area for medical attention while Kemi was handed over to men of the Nigeria Police Force in the nearby police station.

Kemi, a mother of two, further said they had not been on speaking terms since she relocated to the area in June and Rasheed’s wife had not been greeting her and her friend. “My friend, Adijat, has not been greeting and talking with Rasheed’s wife, I know that was why he decided to engage me in a fight,” she added.

Unfortunately, Kemi is going to prison as the police is already in the process of arraigning her in court.

Cholera kills 50 in northern Nigeria

Cholera has killed 50 people in northwest Nigeria in the past week, health officials said Monday, in the latest outbreak of the disease which has claimed thousands of lives across the country since 2010.

The latest infections struck Zamfara state where residents began drinking water directly from streams and untreated wells after a main water pipeline was forced to shut.

"We have recorded an outbreak of cholera in the past one week in six local government areas of the state which has resulted in the death of 50 people while several others have been hospitalised," Zamfara state health commissioner Kabiru Janyau told AFP.

Road construction around state capital Gusau forced officials to close a main pump leading to water shortages in several parts of the state, Janyau said.

"People have turned to streams and open wells for drinking water which led to the outbreak," he said.

Cholera, a highly contagious intestinal infection, is transmitted by water soiled by human waste. The disease leads to diarrhoea, dehydration and death if untreated.

Nigeria suffered cholera epidemics during the rainy seasons of 2010 and 2011, with nearly 2,000 people killed over two years.

While 2012 saw few reported infections, health officials warn that Nigeria remains vulnerable to further outbreaks because of its high population density and poor sanitation in many areas.

Outbreaks are most common during the rainy season, which roughly runs from April to October.

Eight people died and ten others were hospitalised from cholera infections in southern Oyo state last month.

Covenant University will be among world’s top 10 by 2022 - Oyedepo

 The Chancellor of Covenant University, Ota, Ogun, Dr David Oyedepo,  said on Monday that the institution would be among the top 10 universities in the world by 2022.

Oyedepo made the remark at the institution's 11th Founder's Day celebration in Ota.

According to him, the university has since inception in 2002, focused on actualising its mandate, which is primarily to raise leaders who will change the world.

Oyedepo said that already, the university had surpassed set standards but was not relenting till it achieved its desired  2022 dream, tagged: Vision 10: 2022, (1 of 10 in 10).

"It is in view of this that we are launching our new vision and, therefore  want to charge the faculty managements to invest maximally in the review of our curriculum.

"We must strive to review pragmatically, the contents of our curriculum by bringing it into the realities of the day.

"Let us not be afraid of trying out new things in new ways because unless this is done, you cannot move forward.

"We must strive to have the creative mind of Christ to review our curriculum in order to truly meet the needs of the society," he said.

The Chancellor said that empowering the people intellectually and practicalising it through inventions and discoveries was key in taking universities to higher levels.

He charged the students to be excellent performers, especially in the area of self-discipline, as it was a major tool in becoming great leaders.

The chancellor later inaugurated projects in the institution, among which was the vision 10:2022 (1 of 10 in 10) billboard.

He also inaugurated the glass blowing laboratory at the chemistry department of the institution as part of activities lined up for the celebration.

The  laboratory is meant for fabricating, moulding and re-moulding of glass.

The Head of Department of Chemistry, Dr Kolawale Ajanaku, said that the laboratory would enable students  to turn waste to wealth by picking up broken glasses and putting them into use.

He said that the laboratory would not serve the students alone but would be open to members of the public for training.

Covenant University, which was established on Oct. 21, 2002, has graduated more than 10, 000 students. (NAN)

Beg Jonathan So I Won't Be Killed, They Want To Take Me Out ––Amaechi Reveals

For daring to go against President Goodluck Jonathan on principle, Gistreporter observed that governor Rotimi Amaechi has come under all forms of attack and maligning from people working in the Presidency and, most unfortunately, the police that should be neutral at all times.

Consequently, Governor Amaechi has revealed that their is a plot to "take him out" since he is now seen as an enemy of President Jonathan and not a political leader with his own right and privileges. He has also sent out a strong message to Jonathan to ensure nothing happens to him. Speaking in an interview with Sahara TV, Amaechi also narrated his ordeal in hands of the Nigeria police and other agencies under the control of the Presidency.

“I don’t have an aide de camp. I don’t have a chief security officer. They’ve withdrawn so many policemen. They’ve withdrawn all policemen from the commissioners. I feel unsafe. I just know that they want to kill me. Beg Mr. President to ensure that I’m not killed because I’m sure they are planning towards that.”

Amaechi also accused his political forces, including Minister of State for Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike, and the President’s wife, Patience Jonathan, of using the police to intimidate the people of the state.

“It is not just Wike that is controlling Mbu [state Police Commissioner]. It is not just Mrs. Patience Jonathan that is controlling Mbu. There are some people on the street controlling him.

“They are doing two things under the watch of Mr. President and the Inspector-General of Police. They are trying to intimidate the Rivers society so that they can rig elections. And they are trying to intimidate me and expose me to danger.”

Amaechi described the level of impunity under Jonathan as worse than what Nigeria experienced under late General Sani Abacha. He said there would have been peace in Nigeria had the President not interfered in the Nigerian Governors Forum’s election, where he emerged winner.

He said Jonathan confessed during one of their meetings in Aso Rock.
“While Akpabio was denying it, I reminded him that the President confirmed to me that he participated. Jonathan said he canvassed support for Governor Shema and that he called governors and showed them a video recording of my speech on the oil well that was taken from Soku [in Rivers State] to Balyesa, and he therefore told them that if I won, he would never work with me,” Amaechi revealed.

I'm Not Part Of Jonathan Or Atiku-Led PDP ––Says Obasanjo

Contrary to the expectations of many, ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo has declared that he is interested in the peaceful resolution of the crisis in the PDP than pitching his tent with either of the faction. Obasanjo is of the believe that the PDP will lose the 2015 elections if the crisis is not resolved.

Gistreporter.Com gathered that Obasanjo had told Jonathan one-on-one to forget contesting in 2015 in order to allow peace reign in party, but Jonathan told him that his people want him to contest again.

Reiterating his boss' position, Obasanjo's chief of staff, Deacon Victor Durodola, said:
“He does not belong to any faction of the party; he is a leader of the PDP. Baba is a former President of the country under the platform of PDP, former chairman, Board of Trustees of the party, you don’t expect him to belong to any faction of the party.

"As far as he is concerned, PDP is one and what is happening is a disagreement within the PDP family; it is a family affair which will soon come to an end. Baba is a mediator and you don’t expect a mediator to take sides in a feud.

"Those who are insinuating that Baba belongs to one faction or the other are missing it. It is his wish that peace and unity return to the party and that is what he is working on till this hour."

I Offered Her #200, Says Okada Man Who Was Caught Making Love To A Housewife in Bush

A mild drama played out in Orlu, Imo State, when a commercial motorcyclist, a father of two (names withheld), was caught pants down making love to a married woman in a lonely bush.

While the 45-year-old housewife was making a case of rape against the randy motorcyclist, the 30-year-old man insisted that the woman was his concubine.

Giving account of what transpired to the police, the woman said she engaged the motorcyclist at Orlu to take her to her matrimonial home at Obibi-Ochasi.

She said when they got to a solitary area along the route, the man stopped ostensibly to ease himself.

She further told the police that while she was waiting for him to finish easing himself, the man emerged and started asking that they sleep together, adding that when she refused the amorous advance, the man grabbed her and forcefully lifted her into the bush.

The woman equally claimed that the rapist tore her inner wears to shreds, over-powered and raped her.

In his defence, the man claimed that the woman had been his concubine for years, adding that he had previously had fun with her at different times and places, including the spot where they were caught in the act.

He also claimed that he called the woman on her mobile line and asked her to meet him at the agreed spot in Orlu.

The man also claimed that when they got to the bush, the woman stripped herself naked, spread her wrapper on the ground and laid down before he started the act.

The randy motorcyclist, however, agreed that along the line there was a minor misunderstanding on the amount he should pay after they had satisfied themselves.

While the man claimed that the woman was asking for N500 for the service, he offered N200, which he said was the only money on him at the time.

It was equally gathered that plan was in top gear to arraign the alleged rapist in court to face trial.

Snake Found On A Plane In Australia, Passengers Stranded

A snake on a plane has left hundreds of passengers stranded overnight in Sydney.

The eight-inch (20cm) Mandarin rat snake was discovered by staff in the doorway of a Qantas 747 jet due to leave Sydney for Tokyo.

The reptile was spotted just before passengers began boarding.

Some 370 passengers were booked on the flight but all had to spend Sunday night in Sydney hotels thanks to the slippery customer.

Australia's Agriculture Department said the snake, a species that grows to an average length of 1.2 metres (4ft), had been euthanised "as exotic reptiles of this kind can harbour pests and diseases not present in Australia".

The department said the snake had arrived aboard the jet in a flight a day earlier from Singapore.

In January a large python hitched a ride on another Qantas flight

"The Department of Agriculture is looking into how the snake came to be on the plane, but isn't able to speculate at this time," it said.

The mildly venomous Asian snake was about the width of a pencil and did not pose a threat to humans, but it had the potential to cause ecological havoc in the Australian environment if it had escaped the plane with a mate, Canberra Reptile Zoo herpetologist Peter Child said.

A replacement flight was scheduled to leave on Monday morning for the delayed travellers.

One of the stranded passengers, Noah Harris, told Australia's Channel 7 news: "We got a night in a nice hotel and we lose a day of our trip to Tokyo, but what are you going to do? It's a good story."

It is the second "snakes on a plane" drama for Qantas this year.

In January a three-metre python hitched a ride on an early morning flight from Cairns to Papua New Guinea.

The reptile was spotted trapped on the plane's wing and did not survive the journey.

Police Discover Car Buried With Bodies Inside In Nasarawa (PICTURED)

Residents of Nasarawa State were still in shock yesterday over the discovery of the bodies of two bankers and their driver.
They were allegedly ambushed by suspected Ombatse boys, who took them to the bush, killed them, set them ablaze with their car and buried them with the car by the riverside.

The incident happened at Tudun Adabu in Obi Local Government.

The Police Command has arrested 14 suspects in connection with the murder.

The deceased bankers are Alhaji Hassan Gidado, who was the managing director of the Police Microfinance Bank, and Mr. Tunde Banwo.
The police, at a news conference on Monday, said after the the bodies were exhumed, they were deposited at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital in Lafia.

It was gathered that the two top bankers, who lived in Abuja, were in Lafia for the wedding of a child of the police commissioner-in-charge of Cooperative.

Police Commissioner Umar Shehu said the suspected killers would soon be taken to court. He assured residents that measures had been taken to curb the activities of the outlawed Ombatse group.
